Park at the tin pub in Ahakista and head west along the sheeps head trail to dromnea for 4km, the first 1 km is on tarmac and then a lovely grass track until you turn right (clearly waymarked) onto open mountain, and over the bridge below. The up through some fields and right up through a farmers yard and then left onto open mountain and slippy steep under foot conditions. Follow the poles to top of Seefin (345metres) and enoy the excellent vista of Beara to the north and Mizen to the south. Head right here (east) along the ridge (super running!) for approx 1.5 km then you will see poles heading in a southerly direction, towards rosskerrig mountain (poles will be marked baran loop) follow these over open mountain and descend rosskerrig (slippy in bits) all the ways back to the trail you ran on earlier, turn left, retracing your steps back to Ahakista and the tin pub. Here you can if warm go down a small path to a beautiful little beach and take a swim before refreshments in the novel public house, excellent beer garden too.
Total time for a good hill runner 1 and a half hours or 3 hours for a lovely hill walk. Proper hill running foot wear recommended, as is a drink and spare clothing. See sheet 88 OS Discovery series Maps for more details.
